Tire Rotation

Tires do not wear at the same rate in every position. Rotating them evens that out and gets you more miles from the set you already paid for.

  • 30 min typical
  • At every branch

What is tire rotation?

The tires on your car do different jobs depending on where they sit. On most vehicles the front tires handle steering and carry more of the engine's weight, so they wear faster - and often unevenly across the tread.

Rotation moves each tire to a new position on a pattern suited to your vehicle's drivetrain. The wear that has already started gets spread across the whole set rather than concentrating on two tires.

It is one of the cheapest things you can do for your tires, and one of the few that reliably adds miles to their life.

What we do

  • Check current tread depth at several points on each tire
  • Note any uneven wear patterns and show you what they mean
  • Move each tire to its new position using the correct pattern for your drivetrain
  • Re-balance the wheels where it is included in your service
  • Set pressure on all four tires
  • Torque the lug nuts to specification
  • Reset the TPMS where the vehicle requires it

When do you need this service?

  • Every 5,000 to 7,000 miles, or as your owner's manual specifies
  • At every oil change, as an easy interval to remember
  • When the front tires are visibly more worn than the rear
  • Before a long road trip

How it works

  1. Tread check We measure tread depth and look for uneven wear.
  2. Lift The vehicle goes on the lift and all four wheels come off.
  3. Rotation Tires move to new positions on the pattern for your drivetrain.
  4. Balance Wheels are re-balanced where your service includes it.
  5. Pressure All four are set to the correct inflation.
  6. Torque and check Wheels are refitted, torqued to spec and checked.

Important information

Rotation evens out wear - it does not fix the cause of uneven wear. If we find a pattern that points to alignment or a worn suspension component, we will show you and explain what needs looking at. Some vehicles run different tire sizes front and rear, or directional tires, which limits the patterns available.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I rotate my tires?

Every 5,000 to 7,000 miles suits most vehicles. Your owner's manual is the authority - some manufacturers specify a shorter interval.

How long does it take?

About 30 minutes for most vehicles.

Does rotation include balancing?

Our "Tire Rotation and Balance" booking covers both. Rotation on its own moves the tires without re-balancing them.

My tires are wearing unevenly. Will rotating fix it?

It will spread the existing wear out, but it will not stop it happening again. Uneven wear usually points to inflation, alignment or a suspension issue, so it is worth a tire inspection at the same time.
